Alternator conversion kit
This kit fits all twins from 09/1976 onwards, i.e. from /7.
At last, a cure for the small capacity original charging system!
With the standard system should you wish to fit extra lighting or heated clothing this can lead to chronic undercharging and battery problems.
This kit produces 600 watts of power at much lower engine speeds than before.
Serious charging starts at 2000 RPM and the maximum output is achieved at 4000 RPM (which was the onset of actual battery charging in the original system!).
The kit contains a replacement rotor, stator windings, diode board, connecting wires, allen wrench and a rotor removal tool.
The original aluminium stator cover with brush holder from the original is retained.
This requires soldering 3 connections on the front otherwise installation is very straightforward; remove the original parts and bolt on the replacement parts.
If your BMW is fitted with the standard regulator we also recommend replacing it with ELA44410.
Check your brushes (ELA44480) and springs (ELA50786) too!
If you are in any doubt about the compatibility of this system with your bike ensure that the diameter of your current stator where it fits into the engine casing is 107mm.
Current stator number should be 004 005 or 008. See ELA60000 for earlier twins.
