Computerised digital ignition crank driven system for Bosch Alternators. This ignition system is the last improvement ever needed on an Airhead ignition!

This ignition kit includes the upgrade 9 curve ignition module. For the 3 curve ignition module, see item number ELA44080.

The Euro MotoElectrics Electronic Ignition is an electronic optical trigger and electronic ignition advance module that replaces under-performing BMW Ignition points, condenser, mechanical advance unit and on later models replaces the electronic ignition control unit and bean can trigger unit.

This ignition replaces the ignition systems on all 1970-1995 BMW Airhead motorcycles. It is configurable for both single-plugged and dual-plugged engines.

We are delighted with customer feedback on these e.g. 'I've just come back from a run and the bike is going great. Much better than before with loads of torque and it revs right up the scale without hesitation. It's never run this well since I got it.' James Robertson, Aberdeen.

IMPORTANT - Please note this ignition kit has the following requirements to function correctly:

SPARK PLUG COMPATIBILITY

To be used only with non-resistor plugs. Bosch WR5DC, WR6DC and WR7DC plugs are not compatible for this application.  Motorworks supplies NGK NON resistor plugs for purchase with your ignition system. Part numbers are BP5ES, BP6ES, BP7ES and are available on our website for purchase.

SPARK PLUG CAP COMPATIBILITY

The EnDuraLast Electronic ignition is compatible with only 5K ohm spark plug caps. Points ignition airheads more thank likely will need to changer their original 1K ohm caps. Transistorized ignition airheads with a HALL sensor equipped timing pickup should be able to reuse their caps that originally came on the motorcycle.

IGNITION WIRE COMPATIBILITY

The EnDuraLast Electronic ignition is compatible with the OEM stock ignition wires that were originally outfitted on BMW Airheads. These are Hypalon covered, stranded copper core, non-resistor ignition wires with a resistance of about 2 ohms per foot. The ignition is also compatible with Hypalon or silicon insulated stranded copper aftermarket wires, such as that manufactured by Accel, Belden, and Packard.

It is important that copper core wires are used, not the carbon powder center ones normally sold at auto parts stores.

COIL COMPATIBILITY

BMW ignition coils for bikes built up to 09/80 with contact breaker ignition are suitable.

Models built after 09/80 with electronic ignition will require different coils - BMW ignition coils are NOT suitable.

The EnDuraLast Electronic ignition is compatible with all stock BMW ignition coils used on models using points and condensers. Specifically, the EnDuraLast can be used with ignition coils that have a primary resistance seen by the electronics between 2 -3 ohms. Since both stock Airheads and dual-plugged Airheads use two coils wired in series, each of these coils needs a primary resistance of 1 to 1.5 ohms.

The EME ignition is NOT compatible with conventional electronic ignition coils, which typically have a primary resistance of around 0.7 ohms. These coils will fry the EnDuraLast ignition. The older black Bosch coils and the newer electronic black Bosch coils look almost the same – except that the electronic ignition coils (which can’t be used) have a small yellow lightning icon on them.

If you require a 3 ohms coil, we supply the coil ELA44444.
