Regular brake fluid changes
One thing that often gets neglected is changing your brake fluid! If you replace your brake fluid every year you will be preventing future issues from occuring and optimising braking performance. Brake fluid is hydroscopic which means that it absorbs water, which in turn means that the boiling point of your brake fluid will be reduced causing brake fade. Frequent fluid changes will also remove debris which could damage expensive components such as ABS units and master cylinders.
We always suggest using the correct specification fluid, which is usually written on the reservoir lid and is usually Dot 3 or Dot 4. Dot 4 usually has a higher boiling point so use this where applicable.
Do you have an open bottle of brake fluid from a couple of years ago? We'd suggest using new fluid from a sealed container as it's likely the unsealed bottle has absorbed water.
