BMW have provided a minimal rear mudguard for these models but it is insufficiently long and wide to capture mud and water spray thrown forward onto the suspension and to the sides onto riders legs.

The new MudSling for the R1200R/RS protects the wide open suspension area and assorted underseat electronics modules from stonechips, rain, and mud accumulation. Its effective coverage area is 136 sq.in., 8.5 wide and 16 long to protect the Paralever arm. That provides a broad area coverage forward of the tyre where none existed before, while from the side the MudSling's design is slender and well integrated with the bike's form.

MudSling is injection moulded in resilient polypropylene witha fine texture matching other plastic part surfaces on the R/RS. It mounts with one screw to a frame component and is further secured to the frameside rails with zip ties.
